Marcella Brown, Senior FX Artist at Wētā FX and founder of The VFX Club Podcast, joins Maxine in the studio to talk about her VFX career. They cover Marcella's time at Disney, the power of networking and mentorship, dealing with failure and burnout, and how Marcella's own family background has been a motivator in her career.
After medically retiring from the army in 2010, Marcella moved from Ohio to Atlanta, GA, to study a BS in Fine Arts, Game Art and Design. Her career in the industry began as an environment artist, but after falling in love with effects animation, she moved to Los Angeles to study FX at Gnomon School of VFX. Since then, Marcella has been hired at studios like MPC, Scanline VFX, Disney, and now Wētā FX, where she recently worked on Avatar: The Way of the Water. Some of her other blockbuster credits include Godzilla King of Monsters, The Suicide Squad, Dumbo, and the Oscar-winning Encanto.
When she's not making cinema magic, Marcella also runs The VFX Club, a space where artists from all backgrounds, creeds, and colors can express, in their own voices, what VFX means to them.
